For those who appreciate Sangiovese in its most elegant and authentic form, the Podere Il Carnasciale Ottantadue Valdarno di Sopra DOC 2022 is an exceptional find. This wine offers a pure, terroir-driven expression, meticulously crafted through organic farming and natural winemaking, promising a delightful and nuanced experience.

This almost transparent ‘Sangiovese’ in the glass offers bright aromatics of wild strawberries and the great outdoors. Don't expect a big version of the grape; instead, anticipate something more lean and lovely for those who appreciate the true depth of Sangiovese.

The grapes are sourced from cordon trained vines, planted at a density of 5600 vines/ha on clay and limestone soils. The vineyard is managed with organic farming practices. The manual harvest involves small 20kg cases and sorting directly in the vineyard, with transportation to the winery in a refrigerated truck to preserve fruit integrity.

In the cellar, the wine undergoes natural, spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and cement vessels, allowing the terroir to shine. It then matures for 14 months in stainless steel before an additional 3 months in bottle prior to release, ensuring freshness and purity.

Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, aged cheeses and cold meat starters.

In the world of wine, few stories are as authentic and distinctive as that of Podere Il Carnasciale. Founded by the Rogosky family, the estate is nestled in the remote foothills of the Valdarno mountains in the Chianti region. Its history is inseparable from a truly unique grape variety – Caberlot.

The winery is lovingly and attentively managed by Beatina Rogosky and her son Moritz, working closely with long-time winemaker Peter Schilling.

A Unique Grape, a Unique Estate

Caberlot is the only grape of its kind in the world – genetically and in flavor profile it lies somewhere between Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Though the variety was discovered by chance, it has become a rare symbol of what nature and human respect for it can create.

The estate follows strict organic viticulture principles: no chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides are used. All vineyard work – from pruning to harvesting – is done entirely by hand. Each vineyard plot, and even each harvest day, is vinified separately, preserving the unique character of each micro-terroir. Only minimal amounts of added sulfites are used during winemaking.

Il Carnasciale wines are deep, refined, and extremely rare. Each bottle is the result of slow aging, careful selection, and sensitive craftsmanship. They display aromas of red berries, herbs, chocolate, oak, and irises, along with a subtle texture that reflects both terroir and vision.
