Grand Duke of Lithuania Jogaila granted Vilnius self-government and a seal in 1387. Since then, the coat of arms of Vilnius has featured a silver St. Christopher. Christopher, wading through the silver river. A tree grows on each side of the river. St. Christopher holds a golden tree with a double cross at the top in both hands. On his left shoulder is a silver baby Jesus with a golden symbol of authority and a nimbus on his head.
