This outstanding Oloroso VORS (Very Old Rare Sherry) owes its character and complexity to the fact that the 28 butt solera was slowly built up from the best Oloroso butts in the bodega by the original cellar master. He came from Covadonga, Asturias, and made the best Oloroso he could for the Marqués de Real Tesoro who particularly enjoyed Oloroso. On the cellar masters death, the Marqués named the solera Covadonga in his honour. The wine is only released very rarely at an average age of over 40 years. It has an old mahogany colour and is intensely perfumed with nutty balsamic notes. On the palate it is full bodied, extremely elegant and persistent.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 12-14 °C with soups, patés, foie gras and intense creamy cheeses like Brie or Camambert.

The NV Don Gonzalo Oloroso 20 Anos VOS, produced with Palomino grapes from the Carrascal vineyards, is fermented in stainless steel and aged for over 20 years in oak botas. It is a very serious Oloroso, even if it’s not totally dry. It offers bitter almonds, hazelnuts, incense, Cuban cigar ash, and dark chocolate as well as a complex, a very intense, round and ample palate. This wine really fills your mouth. Very intense and with great acidity, it represents very good value for the quality it delivers. A tamed beast.

Valdespino has a very rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Historical sources tell us that the winery and all the land it owns were given to Don Alfonso Valdespino, one of the best knights of King Alfonso X, as a token of gratitude for his bravery in battle. Although the Valdespino winery was established in 1430, it was not until 1875 that the company was legally registered. Since then, Valdespino's sherries have been recognised and appreciated by the local population and the Spanish Royal House, as well as by foreign sherries enthusiasts, including the Swedish royal family. At the end of the 20th century, the winery was acquired by Grupo Estevez, owned by Jose Estevez, an enthusiast of Spanish brandy and sherry. The Estevez Group owns more than 900 hectares. The Esteva Estraves vineyards in the Jerez appellation include one of the most famous, the 'Pago de Macharnudo' vineyard.
