Cavas Canal Nadal is a small family-run business. The Canals Nadal family has been involved in the wine business and passed on the tradition from generation to generation. The Cellar is located in the small village of El Pla del Penedès (Barcelona).
They own 4 hectares and work another 10 hectares that belong to farmers related to the family. They elaborate their cavas acording to their philosophy of practicing artisanal work both in the vineyard and in the winery.
Tasting Notes: Pale yellow color, fine bubbles, good intensity, nose reminiscent of meaty fruits like apples, pears and peaches. Soft texture with some light bready yeastiness, deliciously refreshing palate with a citrus dominating character.
Limited annual production of 50 000 bottles. The wine was aged on the lees for 12 months.
Serve at 6–8 ºC with stewed vegetables, salmon or tuna tartare or grilled fish.
Canals Nadal is founded in 1986 like a Cava producer, a continuation legacy of coopers and wine merchants since 1909. Antoni Canals Nadal, together with his sons, among them the oenologist Joan Miquel Canals Bosch, founded the cellar.
Joan Miquel Canals is an oenologist trained in Falset, with a degree in chemical sciences in 1992 from the University of Barcelona and a doctorate in 1997 from the Rovira i Virgili University, where he is a full professor at the Faculty of Enology. Member and former president of the College of Enòlogues and Oenologists of Catalonia. Expert in the quality factors that influence the sensory perception of wines and sparkling wines in particular. With more than 50 international publications, it participates annually in the most important meetings in the world in oenology and viticulture. Since 1983, he has been producing wines based on traditional cava varieties in the Alt Penedès region.
