Planeta Santa Cecilia Rosso Sicilia Noto BIO 2022 is one of the most important red wines of Planeta, which aims to reveal the classic expression of ‘Nero d’Avola’ from southeastern Sicily. The wine comes from the Noto area, from selected vineyards in Zuppardo and Agliastro, and since the 2021 harvest it has been certified organic. The 2022 harvest is described by the winery itself as almost ideal for the Noto area – having preserved the typicality, character and originality of the variety.
In aroma, this wine reveals itself in a very Sicilian way: Mediterranean vegetation, the seaside, more acidic red berries and darker ripe fruits, bergamot, bitter orange peel notes are felt.
The wine is concentrated but not heavy. Ripe fruitiness here is combined with carefully integrated nuances of wood and a dense but open tannin structure. This is a wine that combines the ripeness of the Southern sun with a restrained, neat structure, giving it an overall impression that is not only rich but also elegant.
The character of this wine is strongly shaped by the Noto terroir. The Buonivini area is dominated by white calcareous, marly soils with chalk fragments, while the gentle hills, the proximity to the sea and the influence of two seas help maintain a balance between ripeness and freshness. It is this area that Planeta considers the historical homeland of ‘Nero d’Avola’ and one of the most important places of expression of this variety in Sicily.
The wine is made from 100% ‘Nero d’Avola’ grapes, hand-picked at the end of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a long maceration with the skins, and then the wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.
Serve at a temperature of 16 - 18 °C, with expressive red meat dishes and meaty fish.
