Tokaj Oremus is a prestigious wine producer from the Tokaj region of Hungary, owned by the legendary Spanish winery Vega Sicilia. The project began in 1993, when Vega Sicilia decided to invest in historic Tokaj with the aim of reviving and continuing the centuries-old traditions of the region’s renowned sweet wines.
The winery is located in the town of Tolcsva, in the very heart of Tokaj, where vineyards grow on unique volcanic soils. These conditions, together with autumn mists and a distinctive microclimate, create ideal circumstances for the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which is essential for the production of the famous Tokaji Aszú wines.
Tokaj Oremus owns several historic and highly valued vineyards, including the legendary Oremus parcel, where the special qualities of botrytised grapes are believed to have been discovered as early as the 16th century.
The main grape varieties used in Tokaj Oremus wines are ‘Furmint’, ‘Hárslevelű’, ‘Sárgamuskotály’ (Muscat Blanc), and ‘Zéta’. From these varieties, a range of styles is produced – from dry white wines to the legendary sweet Aszú and the exceptionally rare Eszencia wines. The winery is also known for its long and careful ageing in traditional underground cellars, which provide ideal conditions for slow and harmonious wine development.
