Fortified sweet
Chiara Boschis – E. Pira & Figli Barolo Chinato – a traditional Italian aromatized wine, created on the basis of deep and elegant Barolo wine, supplemented with herbal and spice extracts.
Chinato – means that bitter plant extracts are added to the wine, often including cinchona bark (varies), citrus peels, spices and medicinal plants, which provide complex aromas and bitterness. After aromatization, the wine is aged briefly to blend the flavors, making the wine stronger, more aromatic and more complex.
The aromas feature a complex of spices – cinnamon, cloves, hints of herbs and citrus peel, shades of chocolate, caramel, bitter notes of quinine, which give the wine a strong character.
The wine is medium-bodied, with a pleasant bitterness, which is typical of the Chinato style. The sweetness of the fruit is balanced with the bitterness of herbs and spices. The aftertaste is long and intriguing with a light hint of citrus and medicinal herbs.
Serve at a temperature of 18-20 °C in small portions - after desserts or as a digestif. With dark chocolate, nuts, blue cheese.
"Pira" is an old winemaking family, mentioned in parish registers since the 17th century. Gigi Pira, a legendary representative of the old school of production, created his wines by harvesting grapes from his plots in the Cannubi, San Lorenzo, and Via Nuova vineyards. However, Pira's attachment to tradition did not end there: he was indeed the last surviving winemaker of the old style. Since 1980, continuity has been ensured by Chiara Boschis and her parents Franco and Ida, who already share a deep friendship and mutual respect with Pira and represent the historic "Barolo" producer family. Chiara is one of the first female winemakers in Barolo. Her style differs from the traditional one. The wines are bright, fruity, rich in aromas, and have friendlier tannins. The grapes are grown according to an ecological philosophy, and all processes are carried out by hand.
