Red dry
Discover the Unique Charm of Michel Gros Au Vallon Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge AOC 2021. Situated on the higher slopes of Burgundy, the "Au Vallon" vineyard offers a distinctive expression of Pinot Noir, a compelling alternative to the more famous Côte de Nuits.
This wine presents a cool and intriguing aromatic profile, where delicate notes of red and black berries intertwine with subtle hints of blue plum, the floral elegance of wild violet, and a touch of green tea. On the palate, it reveals a versatile taste characterized by restraint and refined detail, showcasing the pure essence of Pinot Noir. It is dry, with a subtle energy, leading to an aftertaste that carries a touch of appealing austerity.
The "Au Vallon" vineyard, with its south-facing hillside location at a significant altitude of 425 – 440 meters, benefits from Oxford marl in the upper section and clayey limestone in the middle and lower slopes. This unique terroir contributes to the wine's distinct character, potentially lending a subtle minerality alongside the classic Burgundian fruit. The south-facing exposure allows for good ripeness on these higher slopes.
This elegant wine is aged for 6 months in large oak barrels followed by 12 months in traditional Burgundian "pièces" (25-30% new).
Serve at 14-16 °C with grilled duck dishes, grilled tuna, gently prepared beef slices, fairly hard cheeses.
The roots of Domaine Michel Gros, located in Vosne-Romanée, trace back to 1830 when the first member of the Gros family settled here and established their estate in the very heart of the Côte de Nuits. Subsequent generations continued to expand the estate's holdings with dedication, which today encompass 23 hectares. The estate's distinctive pride is the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Clos des Réas," which the Gros family has owned as a monopole since its acquisition in 1860. Today, Pierre Gros, the seventh generation of this winemaking dynasty, supported by his father Michel, continues and develops the work begun by their ancestors. Passionate yet rigorous, Pierre constantly oversees the creation of his wines, meticulously controlling all stages of production – from vine cultivation to bottling.
