Prosecco styles

Although this Italian sparkling wine often seems uniform, it actually boasts a great diversity of styles. The differences are mostly determined by the sweetness level and the intensity of the bubbles.

Brut, Extra Dry, Dry

These terms on the label indicate the sweetness level, which is marked slightly differently in this wine than usual. Brut is the driest style, featuring crisp acidity. Extra Dry is actually a traditional, semi-dry style with a pleasant, light sweetness. Meanwhile, the Dry style has the most residual sugar and is the sweetest of the trio.

Frizzante and Spumante

This refers to the strength of the bubbles. Frizzante is a lightly sparkling wine with less pressure in the bottle, so its bubbles are gentle and short-lived. Spumante is the classic, fully sparkling version, characterized by a long-lasting and intense mousse.

How to choose Prosecco

This wine is incredibly versatile, so it is best to choose a bottle based on the planned occasion and how you intend to enjoy it.

For cocktails

If you plan to make the popular "Spritz" cocktails, a basic quality (DOC level) Brut or Extra Dry bottle will work perfectly. Its bright fruitiness will beautifully balance the flavors of bitter liqueurs, and the price will be very attractive.

For celebrations

For special occasions, weddings, or gifts, we recommend choosing premium quality (DOCG level) bottles from the prestigious Conegliano or Valdobbiadene zones. This is an elegant, more complex, and highly refined choice that reflects the best characteristics of the region.

For everyday enjoyment

For a light dinner or a casual get-together with friends, feel free to choose Frizzante or a standard Spumante Extra Dry style. It is easy to drink, requires no special preparation, and appeals to almost everyone.

Prosecco and food

Due to its freshness and light body, this sparkling wine is a wonderful food companion that does not overwhelm the palate.

Snacks and salads

It is the perfect aperitif. It pairs ideally with cured meats (such as Prosciutto), olives, light cheeses, and summer salads. To quickly prepare a party table, browse our snacks for wine selection.

Seafood

The dry Brut style wonderfully complements fried shrimp, calamari, or light fish dishes. The crisp acidity refreshes the palate and highlights the delicate nature of the seafood.

Desserts

If you are enjoying fruit tarts, panna cotta, or fresh berries after dinner, open a sweeter Dry style bottle. The golden rule is that the wine should be at least slightly sweeter than the dessert you are tasting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Serving temperature

To reveal all its refreshing qualities and fruity aromas, this beverage must be served well-chilled. The optimal serving temperature is around 6–8°C.

How it differs from Champagne

The main difference is the production method and the grapes used. Prosecco is made using the Charmat (tank) method from Glera grapes, which allows it to preserve very fresh, floral, and fruity (pear, apple, peach) aromas. Champagne is produced using the traditional method, aging in the bottle on the lees, which is why it is dominated by more complex aromas of toast, nuts, and brioche.
