Cava is the pride of Spain and one of the most popular sparkling wines in the world. The main secret to its quality and elegance is the production technology, which is identical to that used in Champagne.
This Spanish sparkling wine is always produced using the traditional (classic) method. The secondary fermentation, which creates the fine and long-lasting bubbles, takes place inside the bottle itself. Extended aging on the lees provides Cava wine with complexity and subtle aromas of toast, nuts, and fresh bread.
Although regional rules allow the use of international varieties, authentic Cava wine is mostly born from three local Spanish grapes: Macabeo (adds freshness), Xarel-lo (provides structure and longevity), and Parellada (adds elegance and floral aromas).
To ensure the wine meets your expectations, it is important to pay attention to the sweetness level indicated on the label.
This is a bone-dry Cava wine to which no additional sugar is added after aging. This style stands out with its exceptionally crisp acidity, minerality, and pure, expressive fruitiness. It is a perfect choice for dry wine enthusiasts.
Brut is the most popular, versatile dry sparkling wine that maintains a perfect balance. Meanwhile, the Semi-Seco (semi-dry) style has slightly more residual sugar, making its taste softer and rounder, perfectly suited for those who avoid high acidity.
Due to its freshness and bubbly texture, Cava is an incredibly versatile wine that pairs well with a wide variety of dishes.
What could be better than an authentic pairing? Cava wine pairs flawlessly with cured meats (Iberico ham), olives, marinated vegetables, and hard cheeses. To create the ideal Spanish dinner, browse our offered snacks for wine.
A dry Cava wine is a classic companion to fried calamari, shrimp, or fish dishes. The wine's acidity perfectly cleanses the palate and highlights the delicate flavors of seafood.
The fundamental difference from Prosecco lies in the production method: Cava is produced using the traditional method (aged in the bottle), which means its bubbles are finer and its aromas more complex. From Champagne, this Spanish sparkling wine differs in its place of origin, climate, and the grape varieties used, which give Cava wine slightly more earthy and ripe fruit notes at a much more accessible price.
To enjoy its full flavor and preserve the long-lasting bubbles, Cava wine must be served well-chilled. The best temperature is 6–8°C. We recommend choosing tulip-shaped or classic sparkling wine glasses.
