The wines of the 'Pinot Grigio' and 'Pinot Gris' grape varieties can vary considerably depending on the growing region and the method of production. Italian 'Pinot Grigio' is generally characterised by a light, fresh flavour with aromas of green apple, lemon, pear and white flowers. By contrast, Pinot Gris from the Alsace region of France is richer, with notes of honey, yellow fruits, spices and nuts. French Pinot Gris wines are often slightly sweeter and richer in complexity.
Pinot Grigio is a great choice for light dishes such as seafood, fish, vegetable salads and chicken dishes. Its freshness and acidity also make it an excellent match for grilled dishes and light pasta dishes. Pinot Gris with a more intense style will go better with fattier dishes such as pork, lamb, dishes with creamy sauces or even cheeses
