Description

Château-Grillet 2021 is a highly regarded white wine from France's Rhône Valley, specifically from the unique Château-Grillet appellation, a monopole owned by a single estate. This wine is a true rarity, sought after by Burgundy lovers and those seeking exceptional experiences.

The 2021 vintage of Château-Grillet offers a more subtle rendition compared to surrounding vintages. Swirling the glass unlocks enticing notes of linden blossom, lime flesh, apricot, white peach, and discrete cedar tones. This is a refined Château-Grillet with precisely sculpted aromas and flavors. Like in 2020, the fruit is perfectly ripe, which helps to retain a wonderful sense of freshness. Offering a seamless mouthfeel and a saline touch on the elegant finish, the 2021 Château-Grillet is utterly delicious.

Each vineyard plot is vinified separately, and the final blend is carefully selected from French oak barrels, with a portion of new barrels used. All vineyard work is carried out by hand to preserve the unique characteristics of each terrace. This is why each plot is pressed and vinified individually.

The wines are then aged in French oak barrels, approximately 20% of which are new. The final blend is meticulously crafted from these barrels. Only 2,300 bottles were produced, making this a truly valuable addition to any wine lover's collection.

About brand

The history of Château-Grillet spans three centuries and is inseparable from the history of French wine. As early as the 18th century, this winery's 'Viognier' wine was considered one of the best in the world, and its admirers included such figures as Thomas Jefferson, Empress Josephine, and King George IV of England. For a long time, Château-Grillet belonged to families living in Lyon, and from 1827 to 2011, to the Neyret-Gachet family. On December 11, 1936, the French Republic granted AOC status to the winery's 3.5-hectare vineyard. This unique monopole appellation borders the Condrieu AOC and allows only 'Viognier' grapes to be grown. Château-Grillet is one of the few French monopole estates with AOC status and is renowned for its rare and exceptional wines. In 2011, the winery was acquired by François Pinault, who invested to improve the wine's quality. In 2012, the equipment was modernized, and a new winemaker, Alessandras Nolis, began working, and in 2019, he was replaced by Chu Jaeok. Château-Grillet wines are renowned for their elegance and pronounced minerality, reminiscent of Grand Cru Chablis, and are long-lived.

Wine Style

Château-Grillet wine is characterized by a distinctive character that combines elegance and minerality. It is a complex and subtle white wine that reflects the uniqueness of the Rhône Valley terroir.

  • White wine: characterized by pronounced minerality, aromas of citrus fruits and flowers, a refreshing taste, and a long finish. A subtle oak note harmoniously complements the wine's complexity.

Prestigious Vineyards

Château-Grillet owns a unique 3.5-hectare vineyard located in the Rhône Valley:

  • The only vineyard where 'Viognier' grapes are grown.
  • A vineyard located on hills where granite and silica soils predominate, giving the wine minerality.
  • A vineyard located in a unique amphitheater-shaped valley with ideal conditions for growing 'Viognier'.

This unique vineyard is characterized by a special soil and climate that give the wine a distinctive character.

Aging and Drinking Period

Château-Grillet wine is characterized by longevity and can age for decades. The wine is often drunk after a long aging period to maximize the expression of its character.
