Description

Located on Bordeaux’s prestigious Right Bank, Château Angélus is a legendary estate and one of Saint-Émilion’s highly coveted Premier Grand Cru Classés "A."

The Grand Vin, Château Angélus, exhibits a deep dark ruby color with a firm core, purple reflections, and a delicate brightening on the rim. The nose offers fine ripe plum fruit, blackberry fruit, delicate floral notes, candied orange zest, and a hint of nougat. On the palate, it is complex and juicy, with ripe dark berry fruit, vivid, plump tannins, and a long finish with a chocolaty touch.

Carillon d’Angélus, the estate’s Second Wine, is a Saint-Émilion wine sourced from an 18-hectare vineyard with plots spread over clay, clay-sand-limestone, and draining soils. Reflecting the estate's rigorous standards, this wine is a variable blend of 'Merlot', 'Cabernet Franc', and 'Cabernet Sauvignon' selected from different Saint-Émilion terroirs.

It is aged for 16 months in Oak (40% new).

About brand

The name for this "Premier Grand Cru Classé" estate, Château Angélus, was given by the vineyard workers who at one time could hear the bells of three churches ringing simultaneously in the heart of the famous medieval town of Saint-Émilion. This legendary estate was founded in 1782. Eight generations of the de Boüard de Laforest family have since taken care of this exceptional property on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. Château Angélus's vines grow in an exceptional terroir: on a south-facing hillside, rich in clay, limestone, and sand soils.

Wine Style

Château Angélus wines are characterized by their intensity, elegance, and long aging potential. They perfectly reflect the unique Saint-Émilion terroir and the de Boüard de Laforest family's commitment to upholding the highest wine production standards.

  • Grand Vin (Château Angélus) is usually dominated by the 'Merlot' and 'Cabernet Franc' varietals, giving the wine a rich structure, complex aromas of black fruits, spices, and earth, as well as smooth but firm tannins.
  • Carillon d’Angélus is the second wine, exhibiting a similar style but is more approachable for earlier drinking, while still maintaining elegance and good structure.

Prestigious Vineyards

Château Angélus's vineyards are located on the south-facing hillside of Saint-Émilion:

  • The southern exposure ensures optimal sunlight and grape ripening.
  • The soil, composed of clay, limestone, and sand, provides the wines with complexity, minerality, and good drainage.
  • Meticulous work in the vineyard, including low yields and manual harvesting, is an essential guarantee of high-quality grapes.

These unique vineyard characteristics and the eight generations of family experience are the foundation of Château Angélus wines' distinction.

Aging and Drinking Period

Château Angélus Grand Vin is aged in new French oak barrels. The wines exhibit excellent aging potential and can be enjoyed after many years, developing even more nuances and elegance.
