'Syrah' / 'Shiraz' 

'Syrah' or 'Shiraz' is a red grape variety originating in the Rhône Valley of France. It is widely cultivated in Australia, where it is known by a similar but slightly different name, 'Shiraz', and also grows in the USA, South Africa and other countries. 'Syrah' is a grape variety that grows best in a warm climate, on stony, granitic or volcanic soils. 

The Syrah profile

Syrah or Shiraz wines are known for their intense and complex aromas. They are often dominated by notes of black berries such as blackcurrants, blackberries, plums or blueberries, as well as hints of spice, pepper, smoke and chocolate. The wine is rich in tannins and concentrated. 

Food pairing

The 'Syrah' or 'Shiraz' grape variety is an excellent choice for meat, lamb, game and savoury stews and grilled dishes. They are also perfect with aged cheeses.
