Raudonasis sausas
Average age of the vineyards is 35 years old. The terroir is gravel, chalk and clay soils with iron deposits on gentle, slopes. The gravel can be quite deep here. In some parcels gravel is found up to 10 meters into the subsoil. After harvesting, fermentation occurs in cement and stainless steel tanks ranging from 80 to 160 hectoliters. Malolactic fermentation takes place in the same tanks. The wine is aged for 14-16 months in French oak barrels; depending on the year of first use, the number of buildings varies between 80% and 100%. Deep pomegranate wine smells of red and black berries, plums, complemented by notes of mulberry, dried rose petals and wood smoke. Medium body, especially soot tannins, expressive aromas of red and black fruits. Intense, long and aromatic aftertaste. Chateau Malescot St. Exupery is usually better with at least 10-12 years of bottle age.
Serve at 16-18 °C with all types of classic meat dishes: veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes.
Aromas of blueberries and stone with some dried-flower notes. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, silky tannins and a medium finish. Linear and refined with a very fine line of tannins running through it.
The 2017 Malescot St. Exupery is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot aged in French oak, 70% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it is redolent of warm red and black currants, kirsch and raspberry pie on the nose with floral wafts, tobacco and wild sage in the background plus a hint of pencil shavings. Medium-bodied, it is packed with expressive red and black fruits and is velvety and refreshing, finishing long.
Starts out strongly, attractive high fruit aromatics on the nose, acidity a touch sharp but they do a great job of balancing it with plush well-expressed plum and cassis fruit, carefully placed with elegance and poise.
