New Zealand's most famous wine regions
New Zealand is divided into several main wine regions, the most famous of which are Marlborough, Hawke's Bay and Central Otago.
Marlborough is New Zealand's largest and most famous wine region and is known for its 'Sauvignon Blanc' wines, which are characterised by bright acidity, fruitiness and herbal aromas. These wines have unique flavour profiles dominated by green apple, citrus and tropical fruit notes.
Hawke's Bay is the second largest wine region and is known for its warm climate and diverse soils. The region is renowned for its full-bodied and well-balanced Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah wines. Hawke's Bay Chardonnay wines often have aromas of ripe peach, tropical fruit and a touch of butter. However, you will hardly ever find wines from this region in Lithuania.
Central Otago is the southernmost wine region in the world and one of New Zealand's most prized wine regions. The region is famous for its elegant 'Pinot Noir' wines, with aromas of cherry, raspberry and spice and a delicate structure. Due to its cool climate, Central Otago also produces excellent 'Chardonnay' wines.
