'Sauvignon Blanc' is a white grape variety which, due to its extreme popularity, needs no introduction. We have New Zealand winemakers to thank for this global popularity and revival. However, classic lovers prefer to talk about 'Sauvignon Blanc' from the Loire Valley in France, the region from which the grape variety originates. In the USA, specifically California, Chile, South Africa and Australia, 'Sauvignon Blanc' wines are also worth getting to know.

The Sauvignon Blanc profile
Sauvignon Blanc is known for its expressive fruity aromas, bright flavours and freshness. The young style is characterised by aromas of blackcurrant leaf, gooseberry, lemon, green pepper, asparagus and tropical fruits. Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in different regions have distinctive characteristics, with New Zealand wines often having a very fruity aroma, more often dominated by herbal and tropical fruit notes, a higher alcohol content, and a slightly sweeter flavour. Wines from France, the Loire Valley, are known for their subtle mineral character, elegance and fresher flavours. One of the Loire Valley's pride and joy is the Pouilly-Fumé AOC appellation, which is characterised by its subtle smoky aromas and flint-like minerality.
Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect accompaniment to seafood, fish, goat's cheese, salads with citrus dressings and Asian cuisine. Thanks to its acidity and freshness, it will also pair well with vegetable starters and light vegetable dishes.
