Raudonasis sausas
The wine showcases expressive black fruit laced with hints of blueberry, blackberry, red plum, liquorice, cardamom and mineral nuances along with subtle traces of ageing: coffee beans, toffee and bonbon box. The palate is deep and balanced, with remarkable freshness and elegance. It displays a persistent fruity aftertaste.
Production: cold maceration helped to heighten the varietal aromas and bright colours. After blending fruit from three plots - El Espino, Fuentecojo and El Picón-, 50% of the grapes underwent malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and 50% in seconduse French oak barrels. The wine was later aged in French oak barrels, 20% of them new, for 12 months, with two manual rackings.
Serve at 16-18 °C with cured cheeses, duck, red meat, jamon.
"La Rioja Alta" can be called the representatives of the old Rioja, because the winery adheres to the traditional winemaking methods of the region. Gran Reserva wine is kept in barrels for up to 6 years and in the bottle for another couple of years before it reaches the final consumer. The vineyards of "La Rioja Alta" are located at a high altitude. Due to such conditions, the wine somewhat resembles Burgundy Pinot Noir wines. The La Rioja Alta group also owns wineries in the regions of Galicia (Rias Baixas) and Ribera del Duero (Burgos).
