Likerinis p. saldus
Verdelho always produces semi-dry wines and is characterized by its tropical and sometimes floral aroma. A white grape predominately planted on the cooler north side of Madeira island. Barbeito's 10 years old Verdelho is a brilliant example. The wine has been aged for at least 10 years in old French oak barrels. Light polished wood, ripe citrus, floral notes, white sultanas and honey. Smooth texture, mineral touch with a fresh and energetic acidity and a lingering finish.
Total sugar: 71 g/l
Serve at 10-12 °C with consommé, smoked salmon, dried ham, pates or spaghetti with clams and orange, cheese and olives.
Rich burnished gold. A little rotted orange note of oxidation of this ripe fruit, with a hint of barley sugar and little floral and exotic fruit notes, as well as a delicate spiciness. On the palate the immediate impression is dry, with a lushness to the texture and a building sweetness through the mid-palate. There is a welterweight of acidity here again, but the creamy, toffeed character balances, and this stays quite rich but very well defined through its acid structure into a long, tangy finish that leaves a real impression in the mouth.
Vinhos Barbeito was founded in 1946 by Mário Barbeito de Vasconcelos and has since then always been run by members family. Nature plays an important role in the production of their wines. They take advantage of the fact that they are aged in three distinct warehouses, all with different climatic characteristics and different sun exposers. This fact enables them to obtain an enormous variety of wines aged by the Canteiro method. All of these characteristics contribute to Barbeito's unique style: long and fresh acidity after taste.
