Baltasis sausas
Every wine grows from the soil and El Jardín de las Iguales is truly one of a kind. Bodegas Frontonio was given the privilege to acquire such a precious piece of land. These vines are so sensitive that they get to connect with their caretaker. We have so decided to guide our actions based on respect and comprehension. At the end of the day, people come and go, but the land remains. Aged 12 months in foudre, final ageing in cement barrels. Straw-pale yellow in color with a delicate mélange of lemon, clove and thyme aromas. The palate is refreshingly acid with an elegant start, the texture is smooth and bright. A long and precise wine meant to be great.
Serve at 10-12 °C with white fish, poultry, soft cheese.
The white 2019 El Jardín de las Iguales Macabeo comes from their iconic old vineyard planted that was in 1890 and is in transition to be certified organic in 2022. It has similar parameters as those from the 2020 that I tasted next to it, with just a tad more freshness and acidity. 2019 was a very complete vintage in the zone, when they picked the grapes on September 6, delivering low yields and powerful wines. This is more austere and less Burgundian (more Jura?); it has less fat and is slimmer, with more tension and nice balance. It has complexity and notes of iodine, lemon peel and pollen. It finishes with a salty twist. Only 802 bottles were filled in April 2021.
Bodegas Frontonio was created in 2008 by three friends from Aragón, Fernando Mora, aspirant Master of Wine, Mario López, oenologist from Bodegas Borsao, and Francisco Latasa, lawyer and international trade expert. The aim of Bodegas Frontonio is to dignify the area of Valdejalón and its vineyards, mainly planted with old Grenache, and with a continental-Mediterranean climate. In total, they directly manage around 50 hectares, with organic certification since 2017. Most part of the vineyards are located in the surroundings of Épila. They have different ages, exposures, altitudes and soil types. The climate is continental-Mediterranean with scarce rainfall (200-500 l/m2/year), 300 hours of sun per year, and days with a lot of wind, also called "Cierzo". Currently, Bodegas Frontonio makes garage wines in the back room of a small winery of bulk wines. They process takes place with minimum intervention, plot by plot. As a result, we can find excellent wines, authentic and with a lot of character.
