Baltasis sausas
The Grand Cru du Rangen is located at the extreme south of the Alsace Wine Route, at an altitude higher than most of the other Grands Crus in Alsace: 350 to 480m. Enclosed in a narrow and cold valley, near the highest summits of the Vosges, the climate is colder and therefore the Rangen is always late to budbreak in spring. The steep slope (90%) exposed to the south makes it possible to compensate for the cold climate of the Thann valley and allows the grapes to acquire high maturities at the end of the season. However, the power of the Rangen wines comes from its unique volcanic soil, composed of compacted ashes rich in mineral elements.
Serve at 12-14 °C with Chinese dumplings, Vietnamese dishes or with desserts.
Very smoky and flinty with lychee, papaya and star-fruit aromas. A very concentrated and super-silky gewurz that has none of the massiveness or bitterness towards which the wines of this grape so easily tend. And that in spite of more than 15% alcohol! Indeed, the freshness on the finish reminds me of the best 2016 gewurz, though here it is married to greater ripeness. Wonderfully silky, long finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
