Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva Don Fiorino Barbaresco DOCG 2016

Description

This Barbaresco Riserva is dedicated to Don Fiorino, the priest that in 1958 inspired and leaded the 19 growers that founded the Produttori del Barbaresco winery in the center of the village, next to the main church, where the winery still stands today. It is a tribute to the old days when the best Barbaresco wines
were traditionally made by blending grapes from great vineyards instead of keeping them separate as single – vineyards.

This is a blend from historical vineyards in Barbaresco from calcareous limestone with sandy veins. The wine was fermentated at 30°C with skin contact time of 30 days and further aging for 30 months in in large oak barrels. Bottled in June 2020. Production volume is approximately 16 000.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 16-18 °C with beef steak, game dishes with truffle.

James Suckling

Incredible aromas of white truffle, meat, wet earth, lightly burnt orange peel and pure fruit. Medium-bodied and very compact, with a block of silky tannins that run through the palate and then come out at the end with a gorgeous texture. It’s very drinkable now, but will age wonderfully. This is a special release. They never made a serious blended riserva in their history. Spring 2023 release. Drink or hold.

About brand

Produttori del Barbaresco, founded in 1958, now has 51 members and controls more than 100 hectares of premium Nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco. Each family is in full control of its land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with centuries old skill and dedication. The vinery produces a Barbaresco DOCG, a blend of Nebbiolo grapes harvested from different vineyards, and a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe suited for earlier consumption. In great vintages, nine single-vineyard Barbarescos are produced from nine classic premium sites within the Barbaresco village boundaries: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota, and Rio Sordo. These are the geographical names of sites where Nebbiolo grapes have always been cultivated. The name of the single-vineyards, the total number of bottles produced, and the name of the owners of the vineyards are marked on the labels. Produttori del Barbaresco, which vinifies only Nebbiolo grapes, produce around 550 000 bottles per year. In a good vintage they are divided among Barbaresco (50%), single vineyard Barbarescos (30%) and Nebbiolo Langhe (20%).
