Hébrart’s skill as a blender in concert with his deep resource of old vines in legendary terroirs makes for a fantastic and harmonious cuvée of profound terroir expression and fruit purity that utterly transcends its tricky season. The articulate expression of fine, chalky minerality defines a super-fine finish of profound persistence and line.
Serve at 6-8 °C as an aperitif, with seafood, oysters, soft cheese plate.
"The 2018 Brut Spécial Club 1er Cru is forward, elegant and very easy to like. Baked apple tart, spice, vanillin, candied lemon peel and tangerine oil all grace this soft, charming Spécial Club. The 2018, a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, looks like a near and medium-term drinking offering, so I would not push my luck on aging. Dosage is 4-6 grams per liter
Jean-Paul Hébrart took over the management of the Champagne Marc Hébrart estate from his father, Marc Hébrart, in 1997. The estate is located in the Vallée de la Marne subregion of Champagne. Marc Hébrart began producing champagne under his own name in 1964. Today, the family owns 14 hectares of vineyards spread across 65 plots in six villages: 1er Cru vineyards in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Avenay-Val-d'Or, and Bisseuil, as well as Grand Cru villages in Aÿ, Chouilly, and Oiry in the Côte des Blancs region.
The "Spécial Club Champagne" represents the highest classification level that grower-producers can achieve. Membership in this exclusive club requires strict adherence to rigorous quality standards, with an intensive, multi-stage inspection process that begins each year in early February. Marc Hébrart has been a member of Club Trésors de Champagne, also known as "Spécial Club," since 1985.
Wine Style
Hébrart Champagnes are full-bodied and expressive, yet not heavy. The entire range is of consistently high quality and offers an excellent price-to-quality ratio.
Prestigious Vineyards
The winery owns prestigious vineyards, some acquired as early as 1962. Among them, the most notable are:
These are complemented by lesser-known but uniquely expressive vineyards in Avenay-Val-d'Or and Bisseuil.
Aging and Consumption Period
Jean-Paul Hébrart Champagnes are perfectly balanced and enjoyable to drink immediately, while also having the potential to age and develop beautifully over time. For example, "Spécial Club" Champagnes are aged for 36 months before release, adding extra complexity and depth.
