Valentin Leflaive

1–5 of 5

Valentin Leflaive is a Champagne house based in the Grand Cru village of Oger, in the Côte des Blancs. The project was born from the expertise of the Leflaive family of Burgundy, renowned for their work with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but in Champagne they have chosen a distinct direction – creating Champagne de Lieux, where the focus is on expressing the identity of individual vineyard sites and their terroir.

The Valentin Leflaive project began in 2015, when Olivier Leflaive and Jean Soubeyrand launched a new Champagne house in Oger, naming it after Olivier's son, Valentin. In 2020, the house obtained Négociant-Manipulant status and established its own winery, complete with traditional chalk cellars carved into the bedrock. Today, winemaking is led by Jean Soubeyrand together with cellar master Élysé Brigandat.

The philosophy is centred on expressing the character of each vineyard site as faithfully as possible. Grapes from individual parcels are vinified separately, using small fermentation vessels. Ageing takes place both in stainless steel tanks on the fine lees and in used Burgundy oak barrels. The winemaking approach is based on minimal intervention, allowing each terroir to retain its natural identity.

The Valentin Leflaive Champagne Style

Valentin Leflaive Champagnes are defined by precision, vibrant acidity, and pronounced minerality. Particular emphasis is placed on the expression of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with each cuvée designed to reflect the unique character of specific sites in the Côte des Blancs and other Champagne terroirs.

The portfolio is centred on Blanc de Blancs and other terroir-driven cuvées, characterised by aromas of citrus fruit, white flowers, chalk, subtle brioche, and lightly toasted notes. Extended ageing on the lees adds texture, complexity, and ageing potential.

Rather than pursuing a uniform house style, Valentin Leflaive aims to highlight the individuality of each vineyard site and vintage. As a result, every Champagne expresses its own terroir while maintaining balance, freshness, structure, and the capacity to develop with bottle age.
