Red dry
The wine is deep red in colour, its aromas unfolding through accents of strawberry and cherry. Notes of soft smoke, anise and cinnamon add complexity. On the palate, the wine reveals a harmonious and elegant character, with vibrant notes of ripe red fruits alongside hints of spice, liquorice and dried herbs. This combination creates the impression of a balanced and remarkably elegant wine.
Serve at 16–18 °C with game roasts, roast lamb or hard mature cheeses.
The 2021 Smith Haut Lafitte, a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot reveals a deep, complex bouquet of dark berries, spices, licorice, pencil lead and flowers intertwined with hints of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's suave and concentrated, with velvety, elegant tannins and a refined, penetrating finish.
This is extremely perfumed, with violets, lavender, forest fruit and beeswax. Medium- to full-bodied with creamy, round tannins. It’s delicious already with a lovely balance, showing dark fruit, meat and chocolate with a hint of smoke. Straight and driven, it has a long finish for the vintage. 63% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but even better in a year or two.
Château Smith Haut Lafitte is currently one of Pessac-Léognan’s most successful wineries. Despite a long history of 800 years, this farm was not famous for its extremely high quality wine, but that changed when it was purchased in 1990 by Daniel and Florence Cathiard. Former ski champions and sports shop owners have relentlessly begun to renovate and modernize the winery, which now boasts a multi-stage grape picking system (grapes are selected both by hand and with an optical sorter), an in-house ripening workshop and a state-of-the-art winery. Fermentation of the wine takes place in 30 different fermentation tanks. In the vineyards, work is also carried out to achieve the highest quality - the harvest is hand-picked only and the grapes are grown and cared for in accordance with the principles of ecology and biodynamic viticulture. All these investments did not go in vain - since 2000, the quality of both white and red wine wines has started to improve incredibly.
