Red dry

Chapelle D"Ausone Saint Emilion AOC 2017

291,00

Description

Blended of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 Chapelle d'Ausone sports a deep garnet-purple color. It needs a little coaxing to reveal provocative notes of plum preserves, Black Forest cake and blueberry compote plus suggestions of roses, cloves, pencil shavings and cherry pie. Medium-bodied, the palate is wonderfully zippy and elegantly fruited with a tantalizing frame of satiny tannins and a long, fragrant finish.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 16-18 °C with red grilled meat, game stews with mushrooms or vegetables.

About brand

Château Ausone is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux, belonging to the highest classification of Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A. The history of the estate is linked to ancient times. It is believed to stand on the site where the villa of the Roman poet and proconsul Ausonius once stood, in the area of Lucaniac, present-day Saint-Émilion. It is from this historical heritage that the winery takes its name.

The vineyard has belonged to the same family for several centuries, preserving very old vines and an unbroken winemaking tradition. Today, the estate is managed and further developed by the heirs of Madame Cécile Vauthier, who continue her work with the same dedication.

The vineyards of Château Ausone are located in an exceptional position. They are oriented to the east and south, surrounded by rocks and old quarries that naturally protect the plots from northern and western winds. This unique protection, together with limestone and clay soils, creates a distinctive microclimate that contributes to the depth and elegance of the wines. The estate covers 9 hectares, and the average age of the vines is 45–50 years.

The soil structure is highly diverse: about a quarter consists of a thin layer resting on starry limestone, while the remainder is composed of chalky clay on the slopes. This combination gives the wines exceptional concentration, minerality, and ageing potential.

Vineyard composition:

  • 55% Cabernet Franc
  • 43% Merlot
  • 2% Cabernet Sauvignon
