Description

A deeply coloured wine greets you with aromas of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, black berries and forest floor. On the palate it is suitably weighty, concentrated and firmly tannic. The structure is filled out by a fruit-rich flavour. Already beginning to open up, this wine will reward those who cellar it for several more years.

Serving recommendations

Decant one hour before serving at 16–18 °C. Pairs well with beef cooked over embers, lamb or rich wild poultry.

About brand

Château Giscours is one of the historic Bordeaux wine estates, located in the Margaux appellation – a region where elegance, structure, and subtlety are the defining characteristics of its wines. For more than three centuries, Château Giscours has symbolized the highest quality standards, combining tradition, terroir expression, and a consistent demonstration of craftsmanship.

The history of the estate dates back to the 18th century, and its name was included in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé – a testament to its enduring quality and long-standing reputation. Over the centuries, Giscours wines have earned the respect of critics and wine enthusiasts around the world for their harmony, concentration, and remarkable ability to age.

The vineyards of Château Giscours cover around 90 hectares and are planted with the classic red varieties of Margaux – ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’, ‘Cabernet Franc’, and ‘Petit Verdot’. These varieties thrive here thanks to the region’s distinctive soils – fine gravel mixed with limestone. This terroir imparts precise structure and clear fruit expression to the wines, while maintaining a subtle mineral layer.

Winemaking at Château Giscours is a harmonious blend of traditional methods and modern control. The grapes are hand-harvested, with yields carefully limited to achieve intense, balanced fruit. Fermentation is carried out separately for each plot and variety, and the wines are aged in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new.

This process helps preserve the wines’ authentic character, where fruit intensity, earthy nuances, and refined texture come together in balance.

Château Giscours wines are highly regarded for their subtle elegance, clear fruit profile, and excellent structure. They are characterized by:

  • deep aromas of red and black berries,
  • refined tannins,
  • well-balanced acidity,
  • long ageing potential.

These wines pair beautifully with lamb, hearty red meat dishes, stews, and aged cheeses – combinations that highlight their complex character.

Today, Château Giscours remains not only one of the most traditional representatives of Margaux but also an innovative vineyard committed to sustainable farming practices.
