Allemand Thierry Cuvee Cornas Reynard AOC 2021

301,00

Description

Reynard is one of Thierry Allemand’s most important Cornas wines, produced from old 'Syrah' vines grown in one of the most distinguished lieux-dits of the Cornas AOC. The granite soils and low yields provide concentration and mineral tension, while the focus is not on power alone but on a precise expression of the site’s character.

The nose reveals aromas of black cherries, blackberries, blueberries and blackcurrants, complemented by notes of violets, black olives, black pepper, graphite and crushed granite. With time in the glass, the wine develops additional complexity, showing hints of smoke, wild herbs, cured meat and subtle earthy tones typical of traditional Northern Rhône 'Syrah'.

On the palate, the wine displays deep structure and precise balance. The concentrated dark fruit core is supported by vibrant acidity, dense yet polished tannins and pronounced mineral tension. The texture remains seamless and refined, while the long, dry finish reveals layers of black fruit, pepper, graphite and savoury herbal notes. This is a wine with significant ageing potential, capable of evolving beautifully over several decades under proper cellaring conditions.

The grapes are fermented with whole clusters using indigenous yeasts. The wine is traditionally aged in old foudres and used oak barrels, then bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its natural texture and the authentic expression of the Reynard terroir.

Serving recommendations

It is recommended to serve at a temperature of 16–18 °C, paired with grilled beef entrecôte, venison, or other game dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.

About brand

Thierry Allemand – the master of Cornas terroir, shaping the story of Syrah

Thierry Allemand is one of the most renowned producers of the Cornas AOC in the Northern Rhône Valley, France. From the very beginning, his ambition has been to create wines that express the true character of Cornas and its unique terroir. He started his career working in a wine warehouse, gradually acquiring vineyard parcels and patiently building his estate with a clear vision: to let the land speak for itself.

His wines come from small, carefully tended plots, each with its own personality — from Les Chaillots to Reynard. Some of these cuvées are produced in extremely limited quantities, often only a few hundred bottles per year, which has made them highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

Allemand’s winemaking philosophy is rooted in natural expression and minimal intervention. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, often using whole clusters, and with as little mechanical manipulation as possible. Sulphur is used sparingly, and the wines are aged for 18 to 24 months, depending on the vintage, primarily in old, neutral oak barrels.

After aging, the wines are bottled unfiltered, preserving their purity and structure. This approach results in wines of remarkable finesse, defined by mineral tension, depth, and an exceptionally pure expression of Syrah. Aromatically, they move from dark berries and black pepper to earthy, savory notes that evolve beautifully with time.

Today, Thierry Allemand is regarded not merely as a producer, but as one of the defining voices of Cornas. His work has influenced an entire generation of winemakers and stands as a benchmark for how tradition, restraint, and terroir-driven philosophy can create modern wines with profound depth and longevity.
