Terroir Characteristics and Taste Profile

Located within the borders of the Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echézeaux villages, the Echezeaux Grand Cru vineyard features complex limestone and marl soils. Different sections of the vineyard (lieux-dits) bring multifaceted characteristics to the wine, but the overall Echezeaux style is recognized by its luxurious velvety texture. A young wine is dominated by intense aromas of red and dark berries (cherries, raspberries, blackcurrants) and rose petals. As the wine matures in oak barrels and later in the bottle, the fruitiness is complemented by complex nuances of truffles, forest floor, leather, and exotic spices (nutmeg, cinnamon). The tannins here are exceptionally fine, firm, yet perfectly integrated.

Food Pairing Suggestions

A top-tier Burgundy Grand Cru demands highly refined culinary pairings that highlight the wine's structure:

How long can Echezeaux Grand Cru wine be cellared?
These are highly age-worthy wines. Depending on the vintage and the winemaker's style, Echezeaux Grand Cru can elegantly evolve in the cellar for 10–25 years or longer, reaching its peak maturity and revealing tertiary aromatic subtleties.

Should this wine be decanted?
It is recommended to decant a young Echezeaux (under 7–10 years) for at least 1–2 hours before serving to allow the wine to aerate and open up. Older wines should be decanted very carefully and briefly, solely to separate any natural sediment that may have formed.
