The Uniqueness of the Elqui Valley and its Grapes

Although the region is very close to the Atacama Desert and features an extremely dry climate, the high altitude and damp morning fogs (Camanchaca) create ideal conditions for late grape ripening. In this appellation, Syrah grapes achieve incredible elegance: rather than jammy notes, the glass is dominated by fresh blackberries, black pepper, olives, and bright minerality, closely resembling the Northern Rhône Valley in France. The region's white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc astound with crisp acidity, aromas of green apples and citrus, and a long-lasting freshness.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Thanks to their balanced acidity and elegant structure, Elqui Valley wines pair perfectly with food:

Dažniausiai užduodami klausimai

Are Elqui Valley wines suitable for cellaring?
Yes. High-quality Syrah wines from this region possess an excellent structure of natural acidity and soft tannins, allowing them to evolve in the bottle for 5 to 8 years, developing complex aromas of leather and earth.

How does Syrah from this region differ from other Chilean regions?
Compared to the warmer central valleys of Chile (such as Colchagua or Maipo), Elqui Valley Syrah is significantly lighter in body, featuring brighter acidity, greater elegance, and strongly pronounced notes of spices and minerals.
