Consequently, the red wine produced here is distinguished by incredible flavor concentration, firm tannins, and bright notes of blackcurrants, plums, eucalyptus, and mint.
Because of their full body and rich flavor profile, wines from this region are designed to be paired with intense, hearty food. It is the ultimate wine for meat, especially grilled beef, rack of lamb, or game dishes. Wines that have been additionally aged in oak barrels will wonderfully complement a barbecue (BBQ) menu and aged hard cheeses.
Is only red wine produced in the Limestone Coast region?
No, although red wines undoubtedly dominate, the region also produces high-quality, expressive white wines, particularly from Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grapes.
How long can Cabernet Sauvignon from this region be aged?
The best examples of Cabernet Sauvignon from this zone (especially from the Coonawarra subregion) possess tremendous longevity. When stored properly in a cellar, they can evolve gracefully for 10 to 15 years or more.
At what temperature should these wines be served?
Since these are full-bodied wines with higher alcohol levels, it is recommended to serve them slightly cooler than standard room temperature—at around 16–18 °C. This prevents the alcohol from becoming overpowering and highlights the fruitiness.
