This is exactly why Mâcon-Villages Chardonnay wines are rounder and fruitier. Usually, these wines are aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve maximum grape purity, although some winemakers briefly use oak barrels to enrich the texture. The glass reveals notes of juicy green apples, white peaches, melons, citrus, and acacia flowers. The taste is pleasantly crisp with a light, mineral finish.
The versatility and soft acidity of these wines allow them to be paired with a very wide spectrum of dishes:
How does Mâcon-Villages differ from Chablis wines?
Although both are made from Chardonnay, they differ greatly due to climate. Mâcon-Villages from southern Burgundy is rounder, features more ripe fruit (peaches, melons) notes, and has softer acidity. Chablis (from the north) is characterized by very austere acidity, green freshness, and flinty minerality.
Are these white wines suitable for aging?
Mâcon-Villages wines are crafted to be most delicious when young. They are best enjoyed within the first 1–3 years of the vintage, while they retain their primary fruitiness and vibrant energy.
