Read moreThe legendary Montrachet vineyard covers barely 8 hectares, divided between the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. The slope's exposure, gradient, amount of sunlight, and ideal limestone and marl soil create the most perfect conditions for Chardonnay vines. The wine possesses stunning power and depth. In its youth, notes of white flowers, apples, butter, and lemon zest unfold in the glass. As the wine matures, complex aromas of honey, hazelnuts, toasted almonds, and truffles emerge, accompanied by an unmatched, immensely long, and mineral finish.
The world-class Montrachet Grand Cru is remarkably complex and requires highly refined food that highlights its texture without overpowering its aromas:
Why is Montrachet Grand Cru so expensive and rare?
The area of this Grand Cru vineyard is microscopic, and it is divided among dozens of different winemakers. Because global demand for what is considered the world's finest Chardonnay vastly exceeds the extremely limited supply, its market price reflects its uniqueness and prestige.
Does this wine need to be aged for a long time?
Yes. Opening a young Montrachet is often considered a mistake. This wine has enormous potential and needs time in the cellar. The best vintages reach their peak maturity after 10–20 years, and some can age gracefully for even longer.
At what temperature should it be served?
To experience the full complexity and richness of the wine's aromas, it must not be over-chilled. The ideal serving temperature is around 12–14 °C. It is also highly recommended to let the wine breathe slightly in a large Burgundy wine glass before tasting.
