Niagara Peninsula VQA is Canada’s largest wine-growing appellation, located in Ontario along the shores of Lake Ontario. It covers the Niagara Peninsula, where vineyards are strongly influenced by the lake, the Niagara Escarpment and diverse soils and terrain.
The region has a cool climate, but Lake Ontario moderates temperature fluctuations: in spring it slows warming and helps protect against late frosts, while in autumn it retains warmth and extends the growing season. Large differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures help preserve acidity while allowing grapes to develop aromatic and flavour complexity.
