Does an opened bottle of Port wine spoil quickly?
This depends on the style. Oxidative Tawny Ports (e.g., 10 or 20 years old) can easily last 1 to 2 months once opened. However, berry-forward Vintage Ports should ideally be consumed within a few days of opening.
Does Port need to be decanted?
Young Ruby or aged Tawny Ports do not need decanting. However, Vintage and unfiltered LBV Ports must be decanted, as they throw a heavy, natural sediment during their long maturation in the bottle.
