Chateau Latour-Martillac Pessac-Leognan Rouge 2017

64,00

Description

One of the most renowned estates in Pessac-Léognan, Château Latour-Martillac embodies the classic Graves balance of elegance, structural depth, and refined minerality. The estate is celebrated for crafting red wines in which Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot speak with purity, precision, and subtlety.

On the nose, the wine opens with concentrated notes of blackcurrant, black cherry, and blackberry. These aromas are joined by cedarwood, gentle tobacco leaf, graphite-driven minerality, and a delicate smoky nuance typical of the gravel soils of Graves. With aeration, hints of sweet spices, cocoa, and fine herbal tones emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, supported by a clearly defined yet polished tannin structure. The acidity is lively, maintaining excellent balance. The flavour profile is dominated by ripe dark berries, spice, graphite minerality, and the elegant, subtly herbal signature of Pessac-Léognan. The finish is long, dry, and structured, with a refined touch of smoke.

The wine originates from gravel, sand, and limestone terraces typical of the Pessac-Léognan region. These well-draining soils yield concentrated fruit and a pronounced mineral identity. The microclimate is mild, with abundant sunlight balanced by cool nights that help preserve aromatic clarity and structural precision.

The grapes undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks following meticulous selection. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels (40–50% new) for 14–18 months, not to dominate the fruit, but to shape and support it with finesse. The result is a classic, elegant Pessac-Léognan red that combines depth with refreshing lift.

Serving recommendations

About brand

The Chateau Latour-Martillac winery, which belongs to the Kressmann family, was included in the Graves Grand Cru classification in 1953, which included both the red and white Chateau Latour-Martillac wine. The estate currently has 45 ha of vineyards, of which 35 ha are planted with red Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grape varieties and 10 ha with white Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle. Among the latter can be found some of the oldest Semillon vines throughout Bordeaux. Some trees are as old as 120 years. With the help of renowned Bordeaux wine consultants such as Denis Dubourdieu, Chateau Latour-Martillac wines soon became a fan and are ranked among the best wines of the Graves appellation.
