Description

An organic, vibrant, and fruit-driven red wine from the Languedoc region in southern France, crafted by the biodynamic Domaine Ampelhus estate. Made from ‘Picpoul’, ‘Mourvèdre’, and ‘Grenache’ grapes, this wine perfectly expresses the energy of the Mediterranean climate and the natural purity of the fruit, achieved with minimal intervention.

In the glass, it reveals aromas of ripe raspberries, cherries, blackberries, and plums, accompanied by hints of herbs, pepper, licorice, and a touch of floral nuance. The bouquet is warm, inviting, and rich, yet maintains a fine balance between fruit and spice.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, smooth, and harmonious, with soft tannins and balanced acidity. Flavors of red fruits, spices, and a touch of oak unfold into a fresh, mineral-driven finish.

The grapes are grown near Lunel-Viel (Hérault department), on quartzite, sandy, and limestone soils that give the wine lightness, structure, and authentic terroir expression. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, without excessive filtration, and the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve its freshness and natural fruit character.

Serving recommendations

Serve at: 15–17 °C. Pairs well with: grilled beef, ratatouille, or medium-aged cheeses.

About brand

Ženia Vasiljeva's journey from Lithuanian pharmacy to the Languedoc wine world began in 2013, when she met her husband, Frenchman Thibauld Vermillard. After two years of experimentation and learning, they took over a 10-hectare family vineyard and expanded it to 12 hectares. Today, "Domaine Ampelhus" is a successful winery that has won the Best Young Winemaker in France award. Ženia and Thibauld, following traditional winemaking methods and biodynamic principles, create exceptional wines that reflect the uniqueness of the Languedoc terroir. They grow various grape varieties, including 'Muscat', 'Grenache', 'Piquepoul Noir', 'Terret Noir', and 'Rivairenc', and some wines are made by experimenting with unusual methods.

Wine Style

"Domaine Ampelhus" wines are characterized by a distinctive character that combines tradition and innovation. They are aromatic, expressive wines that reflect the sun and soil of the Languedoc region.

  • White wine: characterized by minerality, full texture, pure aroma, and subtly integrated oak character.
  • Red wine: aromatic, with soft tannins, juicy, and with a dominant red berry character.

Prestigious Vineyards

"Domaine Ampelhus" owns vineyards located in the Languedoc region, renowned for its unique terroir:

  • Vineyards with old vines, aged 40 to 70 years, grown by Thibauld's grandfather.
  • Vineyards with newly planted historical grape varieties.
  • Vineyards located on hills with round stones (galets roulés), brought here by the Rhone River 400,000 years ago.

These vineyards are characterized by unique soil and climate, which give the wines a distinctive character.

Aging and Consumption Period

"Domaine Ampelhus" wines have a good balance between youthfulness and aging potential. Due to soft tannins and bright acidity, these wines can be enjoyed in their youth, but some red wines also age and develop beautifully over time.
