Domaine Clos de Tart Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Forge de Tart 2023

329,00

Description

"La Forge de Tart" is the second wine of the legendary Monopole (sole-ownership) estate "Clos de Tart". Although technically classified as a Premier Cru, its exceptional quality and provenance place it with one foot firmly in Grand Cru territory.

In the glass, an exceptionally pure and refined aromatic bouquet immediately unfolds. Ripe wild raspberries, cherries, and redcurrants dominate, complemented by delicate notes of peonies, violets, and damp earth. In the background, there is an elegant touch of spice (cloves, freshly ground pepper), stemming from masterful aging in oak barrels.

On the palate, the wine boasts a velvety texture and vibrant energy. The tannins are incredibly fine and silky, characteristic of the highest-tier Pinot Noir wines. The 2023 vintage gives the wine a juicy mid-palate, beautifully intertwining the freshness of red berries with a deep minerality. It is a wine of incredible harmony and a long, fresh finish.

Serving recommendations

Serve this wine at 16–18°C alongside roasted duck breast, veal fillet with wild mushrooms, or refined French cheeses.

About brand

Clos de Tart is one of the most historically significant and prestigious estates in Burgundy, located in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. It is a Grand Cru Monopole – a single, uninterrupted 7.53-hectare vineyard enclosed by stone walls, which has never been divided since 1141. Such territorial and historical continuity is rare in Burgundy and grants Clos de Tart a distinctive place among the region’s great names.

The vineyard was founded by Cistercian monks from the Abbey of Tart. Today, the estate belongs to the Pinault family, owners of Artemis Domaines. Despite changes in ownership throughout history, the core philosophy has remained the same: to preserve the identity of the terroir and to produce precise, long-lived wines.

The vineyard is situated on a southeast-facing slope at an altitude of 270–300 meters above sea level. The soils are complex and layered, with a limestone base, clay components, and a stony surface. This geological combination allows the ‘Pinot Noir’ variety to express structural depth, minerality, and long ageing potential. The average vine age is around 60 years, with some parcels planted significantly earlier.

Clos de Tart produces a single main wine, a Grand Cru from ‘Pinot Noir’. The harvest is carried out by hand, and the grapes are meticulously selected. During fermentation, a portion of whole clusters is often used to enhance structure and add aromatic complexity. The wine is aged for approximately 16–18 months in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new, although oak is used judiciously so as not to overshadow the character of the site.

Clos de Tart wines are known for their dense yet refined texture, clearly defined tannic architecture, and long mineral finish. The aromatic profile combines dark cherries, forest berries, subtle spices, and earthy nuances that gain further complexity with age. It is a structurally precise and architectural expression of Burgundy ‘Pinot Noir’, capable of ageing for several decades.
