Description

Gaja Ca'Marcanda Promis Toscana 2024 is one of the most recognizable wines of the Ca'Marcanda winery, created in the Tuscan estates of the famous Gaja family. The name "Promis" comes from the Italian word promessa ("promise") and symbolizes Angelo Gaja's vision to create elegant, modern, yet clearly reflecting its origins Tuscan wines. This blend combines the varieties 'Merlot', 'Syrah' and 'Sangiovese', giving the wine both the richness of an international style and the Italian character and freshness.

The aroma bouquet is dominated by ripe black cherries, blackberries and blueberries, complemented by violet flowers, sweet spices, cinnamon, anise and light toasted wood notes. As the wine opens in the glass, subtle tobacco, Mediterranean herbs and mineral accents emerge.

The wine is medium-weight, silky in texture and perfectly balanced. The juicy black fruit tones are combined with ripe tannins and fresh acidity, while the Sangiovese adds vitality and elegant structure. The aftertaste is long, harmonious and slightly salty, reflecting the Tuscan terroir.

The grapes are grown in the Bolgheri and nearby Bibbona areas, where calcareous clay and loamy soils (terre brune) and a Mediterranean climate prevail. Warm days and fresh sea breezes ensure even ripening of the berries, maintaining aromatic intensity and natural acidity.

Each variety is fermented separately, then aged for about 12 months in oak barrels. Only then are the wines blended and aged in the bottle for a few more months to achieve a uniform and balanced style.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 16-18 °C. Recommended pairings: beef steaks, duck, lamb, pasta with wild game ragù, aged pecorino cheeses or mushroom dishes.

About brand

The Gaja family settled in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy in the mid-17th century. They have been producing wine in the Barbaresco area since 1859. Four generations of dedicated work and a noble pursuit of making top-quality wines have made the Gaja name synonymous with Italian winemaking excellence worldwide. Today, the fifth generation – Gaia, Giovanni, and Rossana Gaja – continues the family traditions, leading this legendary winery.

Currently, Gaja in Piedmont produces both classic expressions of the ‘Nebbiolo’ grape – Barbarescos and Barolos – and innovative “Langhe DOC” red and white wines from international grape varieties. The family also owns two estates in Tuscany: “Ca’Marcanda” in Bolgheri, famous for its “Super Tuscan” wines, and “Pieve S. Restituta” in the Montalcino area, producing “Brunello di Montalcino” wines. Additionally, a joint project with Alberto Graci in Sicily, at the foot of Mount Etna, testifies to the family’s constant pursuit of innovation and quality.

The Gaja family firmly believes that the true spirit and quality of wine are born in the vineyards themselves. Therefore, the greatest attention is paid to vineyard care: searching for climate change-resistant clones, limiting yields, growing other crops between vineyard rows to enrich the soil and help retain moisture and protect the harvest from heat. The highest quality standards are applied to all farms: grapes are grown only in family-owned vineyards, adhering to ecological and sustainability principles, with particular attention to soil quality and biodiversity.
