Perkins Harter “The Weight” Old Vine Zinfandel 2015 is a small-production, expressive red wine from Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County, California. It is based on 80% Zinfandel from R. Teldeschi’s old vineyard, planted in 1889, 15% Petite Sirah and 5% Syrah.
The aroma is dominated by ripe blackberries, black cherries and plums, complemented by black olives, pepper, baking spices and light meaty notes. The Petite Sirah and Syrah give this wine a darker, spicier and more structured character than many classic California Zinfandels.
The wine is concentrated: juicy blackberries and plums are combined with bright acidity, firm, slightly chewy tannins and a peppery character. The finish is long, with nuances of berries, spices and chalky minerality. Tasted in 2026, more than a decade after the harvest, the wine was still described as vibrant, well-structured and with potential for further maturation.
Serve at a temperature of 16 - 18 °C. Recommended with BBQ, wood-fired pizza, stews and grilled meats.
