Read moreFounded by Jean-Francois de Pontet, the royal governor of the Médoc, Château Pontet-Canet has shaped the history of the Pauillac appellation for centuries. Although ranked as a Fifth Growth (5ème Cru) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, modern experts universally agree its quality performs at a much higher level. Since the Tesseron family acquired the estate in 1975, its worldwide demand, auction prices, and overall quality have soared dramatically.
The estate comprises 81 hectares (200 acres) of prime vineyards located in the heart of Pauillac. The warm, well-drained soils of Garonne gravel over limestone provide the perfect terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon (62%), complemented by Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The vineyard is fully certified organic and biodynamic. After meticulous hand-harvesting, the grapes are fermented in state-of-the-art concrete vats and aged for 16-20 months in oak barrels, resulting in wines of extraordinary purity.
This powerful, elegantly structured wine demands robust and flavorful dishes. It pairs magnificently with roasted lamb, prime cuts of beef, and aged hard cheeses. To elevate your tasting experience, browse our curated selection of wine snacks.
