Château Léoville Poyferré is one of the most authoritative estates in Saint-Julien, belonging to the legendary 1855 Bordeaux Classification as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé. Its roots date back to the 18th century, when the great Léoville estate was divided into several parts, forming the renowned Saint-Julien names known today. In 1840, Léoville Poyferré emerged from this historic property, named after Baron Jean-Marie de Poyferré. Since the 1920s, the estate has been owned and managed by the Cuvelier family.
The vineyards are located in the very heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, on classic Médoc gravel hillsides that ensure excellent drainage and natural grape concentration. Covering approximately 80 hectares, the carefully tended plots are dominated by ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, which provides structure and longevity to the wines, complemented by ‘Merlot’, ‘Cabernet Franc’, and a small proportion of ‘Petit Verdot’. This classic blend of varieties allows for the creation of rich, complex, and elegant wines that reflect the distinctive character of Saint-Julien.
