The “Inglenook” winery, located in Napa Valley, California, is one of the historic icons of American winemaking, with roots dating back to 1868. Its founder, Finnish-born ship captain Gustave Niebaum, dreamed of establishing a winery that could rival the most renowned estates of Europe. Over the course of more than a century, “Inglenook” has experienced both highs and lows but has remained true to its vision—producing the highest quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of Napa Valley. Today, under the leadership of legendary filmmaker Francis Coppola and talented winemaker Philippe Bascaules, formerly of the prestigious “Château Margaux,” the winery is focused on restoring its historic prestige and crafting wines that express the character of the land with “rigor, intellectual honesty, and instinctive passion.”

“Inglenook” wines are elegant, balanced, and expressive, reflecting the terroir of Napa Valley and the principles of classic winemaking. Their style combines the fruit intensity of the New World with the structure and subtlety of the Old World.
White wine (predominantly from ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ and ‘Chardonnay’) is distinguished by its fresh minerality, creamy texture, and harmoniously integrated oak character, which adds depth without overpowering the wine’s fruitiness.
Red wine (primarily from ‘Cabernet Sauvignon,’ ‘Merlot,’ and ‘Cabernet Franc’) is powerful yet elegant, with silky tannins and dominant aromas of black berries, spices, and subtle herbal notes.
“Inglenook” owns exceptional vineyards in Napa Valley, which form the foundation of the winery’s quality. These plots, first established during Gustave Niebaum’s era, are among the most coveted in the region. Notable among them are:
Rutherford AVA – the heart of “Inglenook’s” vineyards, renowned for its unique soil, known as “Rutherford dust,” which imparts exceptional tannin softness and complexity to ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ wines.
Chiles Valley – higher-elevation plots, ideally suited for ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ and ‘Chardonnay,’ characterized by freshness and minerality.
Cask Vineyard – a historic vineyard dedicated to the flagship “Inglenook Rubicon” wine, blending the qualities of ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ and other Bordeaux varieties.
These are complemented by other Napa Valley vineyards, such as “Edizione Pennino,” used to produce ‘Zinfandel’ wines known for their juiciness and expressive character.
One of the greatest strengths of “Inglenook” wines is their versatility—they are enjoyable to drink upon release but also possess exceptional potential to mature and improve over time. Red wines, such as “Rubicon,” can age for 15–20 years, revealing increasingly subtle notes of cedar, tobacco, and leather.
