White dry
„Chardonnay“ from „Poruzots Dessus“, one of the Meursault 1er Cru vineyards, which François Mikulski has been cultivating since 1992. The vines are around 50 years old, and the vineyard is farmed according to organic, though uncertified, principles. The 2024 vintage stands out for its tension, minerality and precise structure, making this „Meursault“ more about freshness and terroir expression than rich, buttery texture.
In the glass, the wine is pale and bright, with the colour of fresh lemon juice. The nose reveals lime, lemon zest, white flowers, pear and white fruit, complemented by almond, fresh herbs, spices and wet limestone. The aroma is precise, mineral and vertical, with the fruit remaining in the background.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with pronounced acidity and a silky texture. Flavours of white and citrus fruits and spices are complemented by clear chalky minerality and a subtle saline note. The finish is long, linear and precise, maintaining the tension between acidity and mineral character.
The „Poruzots Dessus“ vineyard covers 62 ares on the eastern slopes of Meursault. The soil consists of approximately 30 cm of silt over fractured bedrock; silt that has penetrated the cracks in the rock retains moisture and allows the roots to reach deeper layers. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, with only around 20% new oak.
Serve at a temperature of 12–13 °C; pairs well with pan-fried flounder with butter, sea perch in a salt crust, and lobster with butter sauce.
François Mikulski, the son of a Polish émigré, manages his winery in Chassagne-Montrachet and has turned his unusual surname for the region into an advantage. His wines stand out not only in taste but also in appearance – the winemaker's name, surname, and vineyard are simply written in white paint, like chalk, on a plain, monochromatic bottle. Since the family winery is located in the Meursault area, he primarily specializes in producing brightly flavored white wines bearing the village's name.
Aiming to preserve the inherent characteristics of the growing site and grape variety, François Mikulski employs organic winemaking methods. His wines are expressive, boast exceptional balance, and are enjoyable both fresh and aged.
The family currently manages 9 hectares of vineyards, three-quarters of which are dedicated to white grape varieties. The remaining just over 2 hectares are planted with ‘Pinot Noir’ grapes. Among them are also less famous but distinctive vineyards in Chassagne, Meursault, and Pommard.
After a meticulous sorting of bunches during harvest, grapes are destemmed and gently pressed using a pneumatic press. Natural yeasts are used for fermentation.
Aging in barrels lasts 10–12 months. To ensure the oak doesn't overshadow the vineyard's inherent flavor, François uses no more than 20% new barrels.
