Racha is one of the smallest, most sparsely populated, yet undeniably one of the most beautiful and prestigious wine regions in Georgia. Located in western Georgia and surrounded by the Greater Caucasus Mountains, the region is often referred to as the "Switzerland of Georgia" due to its breathtaking landscapes. The vineyards, stretching along the gorge of the rapid Rioni River, enjoy a unique mountain microclimate. Although Racha produces only a small fraction of the country's total wine, it is the birthplace of some of the rarest, most expensive, and highly sought-after Georgian wines, renowned for their elegance, vibrant fruitiness, and exceptional balance.

The winemaking traditions of the Racha region were shaped by its harsher mountain climate. Vineyards here grow on steep slopes in calcareous and stony soils, which ensure excellent drainage and impart distinct minerality. Historically, cooler summers and early, cold winters led to the emergence of a unique local style: due to plummeting autumn temperatures, wine fermentation would halt naturally before the yeast could consume all the sugar. This birthed the tradition of crafting naturally semi-sweet red wines that retain incredible freshness and a harmonious, never-cloying sweetness.
The brightest star of the region is the wine produced in the Khvanchkara Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) microzone. It is a legendary, naturally semi-sweet red wine whose production area is limited to just a few small villages on the right bank of the Rioni River.
Although the region is most famous for its semi-sweet reds, Racha also has much to offer admirers of dry and white wines. Today, the same 'Aleksandrouli' grapes are increasingly being used to produce excellent, elegant, and complex dry red wines. Meanwhile, the white wine category is ruled by the indigenous 'Rachuli Tetra' and the 'Tsolikouri' grape, which arrived from neighboring regions. These varieties yield both crisp dry and delicately semi-sweet white wines, characterized by inviting notes of linden blossom, apples, and wildflowers.
The wines of Racha are a true rarity. Due to the small vineyard acreage and challenging growing conditions, every bottle from this mountain region offers an exclusive experience, allowing you to taste the purest essence of Georgian nature.
