Originating from Reykjavik, Iceland, this unique aquavit combines elements of Dutch genever and traditional Scandinavian aquavit. Distilled from malted grain at 47.5% ABV, it stands out with a remarkably rich and herbal flavor profile.
Aroma: rich and funky, intertwining notes of malted grain, lemon, dill, and caraway.
Taste in the mouth: slightly spicy, reminiscent of a young whiskey, where herbal notes of dill and coriander are complemented by the rich sweetness of the base spirit, finishing with a touch of fennel and sweet lemon.
Serving recommendations and pairing: easily enjoyed on its own or as a versatile base for stirred and shaken cocktails. Can be used as an alternative to gin.
Bittermens is a cult American brand founded in 2007 by Avery and Janet Glasser, pioneers of cocktail culture whose bitters (most famously Xocolatl Mole) are used in the world's best bars today. Having grown from a bitters workshop, Bittermens went on to create distinctive spirits of its own, among them Solståndet Mältat Akvavit – a modern interpretation of the Scandinavian aquavit tradition.
Solståndet (Swedish for "solstice") is a malted akvavit that unites two Northern European traditions: the malty richness of Dutch genever and the spice of Scandinavian aquavit. It is made from malted grain spirit flavoured with caraway, dill and lemon, and distilled in Iceland, near Reykjavik. Bottled at 47.5% ABV, it shows a rich, malty character with pronounced notes of dill, caraway and citrus, and a long, warming finish. Excellent both neat and chilled in the Scandinavian tradition, or in classic cocktails.
