The crystal RIEDEL Sommeliers Rheingau glass is designed to fully express the character of white wines from northern regions such as Mosel, Rheingau, Franken, and Weinviertel. Its elegant, subtly elongated shape emphasizes freshness, vibrant acidity, and a dry style, while enhancing fruit expression and aromatic precision.
The unique rim design, known as the “acid spoiler,” directs the wine first to the tip of the tongue, where sweetness is most perceptible. This gently amplifies the perception of fruit while reducing the impact of acidity on the sides of the tongue. As a result, the wine reveals itself more harmoniously in the glass, maintaining a balance between freshness, fruitiness, and minerality, with a soft finish and a delicate almond-like note.
This glass is particularly suited for young, well-chilled white wines, especially those made from ‘Riesling’, ‘Grüner Veltliner’, or other aromatic, high-acidity grape varieties. It allows for a more precise perception of structure while enhancing the overall tasting experience.
The RIEDEL Sommeliers collection was the world’s first wine-friendly glass range, created by Claus J. Riedel. It marked a true design revolution, based on the Bauhaus principle “form follows function.” This series demonstrated for the first time that different glass shapes can significantly influence how wine expresses itself—bringing greater depth, precision, and balance.
Each glass is handmade, giving it a unique character. Due to the nature of craftsmanship, slight variations in size or weight, as well as tiny bubbles or surface nuances, are a natural and acceptable part of the process.
