Varner Wine Foxglove Pinot Noir Central Coast 2019

33,00 €

Description

Varner Wine Foxglove Pinot Noir Central Coast 2019 is an elegant red wine from California’s Central Coast, balancing ripe fruit expression with a refreshing quality. The aroma reveals notes of cherry, wild strawberry, plum, and rhubarb, complemented by subtle hints of herbs and spices. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a silky texture, characterized by juicy fruit flavors and soft tannins. The finish features distinct notes of black tea and spice.

Following malolactic fermentation, 86% of the wine was aged in stainless steel tanks, while 14% was matured in large oak barrels known as "puncheons." This approach preserves vibrant fruit character while ensuring a restrained oak influence.

"Foxglove" is a line of wines created by brothers Bob and Jim Varner. This wine is crafted from Pinot Noir grapes grown in California’s Central Coast region, where the influence of the Pacific Ocean helps maintain the freshness of the fruit.

About brand

Varner Wine – twin brothers Bob and Jim Varner represent one of California's most compelling winemaking stories. In the 1980s they planted the Spring Ridge Vineyard in Portola Valley, in the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation, and for decades did all the work themselves, both in the vineyard and in the cellar – a rare case of winemakers who are also the farmers of their own vines. Their single-block Chardonnays (Amphitheater, Home, Bee) earned the highest critical acclaim and were compared to the finest white Burgundies.

The Varner style is pure, transparent and terroir-driven: minimal intervention, restrained use of oak and a focus on the character of the site. In 1991 the brothers introduced their second label, Foxglove – wines of outstanding value from the Central Coast (Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo). Foxglove Chardonnay is fermented in steel tanks without malolactic fermentation, making it notably fresh, pure-fruited and mineral. This is honest, masterful California winemaking without any gloss – just quality in the glass.
