Moravský Muškát (Moravian Muscat) is a unique and expressive white grape variety developed in the Czech Republic. This variety produces exceptionally aromatic, light, and refreshing wines where the classic floral nature of Muscat grapes harmoniously intertwines with gentle citrus notes. It is a perfect choice for summer afternoons and those who appreciate fragrant, light-bodied white wines.

Although the vibrant aroma of roses, geraniums, melons, and mandarins often suggests sweetness, the majority of modern Moravský Muškát wines are made in a dry or semi-dry style. This helps maintain a pleasant, crisp acidity that balances the intense aroma and prevents the wine from becoming cloying. For those who prefer sweeter drinks, it is worth looking for semi-sweet variants, which pair ideally with desserts.
Thanks to its perfumed character, Moravský Muškát is an impeccable aperitif. At the table, its drier versions pair perfectly with light spring salads, asparagus, light poultry dishes, and mild goat cheese. Slightly sweeter versions wonderfully balance the mild heat of Asian cuisine (especially Thai or Vietnamese dishes).
This variety was created in the second half of the 20th century at a Moravian research center by crossing two grape varieties: Muscat Ottonel (which provided the recognizable floral aroma) and Prachtraube (which contributed disease resistance and better yields). The variety was officially registered in 1987.
The charm of Moravský Muškát lies in its youthfulness and particularly intense primary fruit and floral aromas. Unlike some other white grapes, this variety is not intended for long-term bottle aging—if stored too long, its delicate aromas tend to fade quickly, and the acidic structure weakens. It is best tasted within 1–2 years of the vintage.
