Orange dry

Gio's Marani Kisi Reserve Qvevri 2018

28,00

Description

Orange wine made from Kisi grapes grown in the Akhmeta appellation of the Kakheti region at Chateau Mere winery, owned by winemaker Zviad Gurashvili. The grapes for this wine come from vineyards located at 500 metres above sea level. The vineyards were planted between 1995 and 2000.

2018 was a sunny and reasonably dry year; the grapes were harvested at the end of September, sorted and crushed into qvevri (clay vessels) on the same day. Maceration in the qvevri lasts 5.5 months.

The wine is an intense amber colour, with aromas of apricot, honey, melon and orange peel, with a slight mineral note.

Serving recommendations

Recommended to serve at 12–14 °C; it is important not to over-chill the wine. Pairs well with hard cheeses, dried fruit and light poultry dishes.

About brand

Gio’s Marani

“Gio’s Marani” is a modern Georgian winery that brings together the country’s ancient winemaking heritage with a clear, contemporary style. Established in 2016, the producer is based in Kakheti – the heart of Georgian viticulture – where some of the country’s most expressive red and amber wines are born. Today, the winery’s portfolio is exported to a growing number of international markets.

Tradition reinterpreted

In Georgia, marani refers to the traditional wine cellar – a place where wine is not only made, but also deeply rooted in family, land and hospitality. “Gio’s Marani” builds on this philosophy while presenting wines in a style that is approachable and consistent. Alongside classic expressions, the winery also works with qvevri – large clay vessels buried underground, used for fermentation and ageing in accordance with centuries-old Georgian tradition.

Native grapes and regional identity

The wines are crafted from indigenous Georgian grape varieties such as ‘Saperavi’, ‘Rkatsiteli’, ‘Kisi’ and ‘Mtsvane’. In Kakheti, ‘Saperavi’ is known for producing deeply coloured, structured wines with dark fruit character, while white varieties – especially when made in qvevri – reveal layers of dried fruit, tea, herbs and gentle tannins. This combination of native grapes and traditional techniques gives the wines a strong sense of place.

Wine style: authentic and accessible

The style of “Gio’s Marani” is defined by balance – between tradition and modern clarity. Red wines typically show ripe dark berries, plum and subtle spice, supported by smooth tannins and a rounded texture. Amber qvevri wines offer a more distinctive profile, with notes of dried apricot, nuts, herbs and a lightly grippy structure.

These are versatile, food-friendly wines that make Georgian winemaking easy to understand and enjoy. They pair naturally with grilled meats, spiced dishes, aged cheeses, and also work well with more complex, aromatic cuisines.
